The three Peeks challenge

Peeks the party supplier is celebrating its 65thbirthday this year – with the third generation of the family taking charge.

Nick Peek, 38, is now at the helm of the firm that was started by his grandfather in 1946 and remains based in Christchurch, Dorset.

Charles Peek, who turns 90 this year, began the company from a single stall after the war finished. When Christmas came he began selling cards and decorations – and never looked back.

Charles' son John, now 65, joined the firm in 1977 - Jubilee year - and Peeks went from strength-to-strength. John took over as managing director in 1986 and oversaw the massive expansion of the company over those 25 years.

Now third generation Nick is in the hot seat and determined to drive the company forward into the 21st century.

Nick commented: "It is a great responsibility to takeover the company that my grandfather started just after the war. My grandfather sold items for the Queen's wedding, my father held the reins during Prince Charles and Lady Diana's wedding and I had the helm for William and Kate's.”

Nick continued by adding: "It is a challenge that I'm very much looking forward to and it's reassuring to know that two generations of the family are there to give advice. We cater for all the events in the calendar including Christmas, New Year, St Patrick's Day, St George's Day and Halloween. Recently the online element of the business has become more important and hopefully that will continue to grow.”
