Snazaroo steps-up

Snazaroo started as a company in 1989 in Minehead, supplying face paints to fancy dress hire shops and holiday camps around the UK.

Since then, the team of four people operating out of a small seaside town has grown to employ over 60 people - now with two sites that distribute Snazaroo products to over 60 countries worldwide!

Charlie Wallis, UK commercial manager at Snazaroo, explained one of the company’s secrets of success: “The company’s rigorous testing programme means that Snazaroo’s own standards for its products go beyond the regulations for cosmetic and toy safety standards established within Europe, the United States and Australasia.”

2011 is a year of significant expansion for the company, with the first quarter seeing the launch of three new products and more to come over the rest of the year. Charlie Wallis explained that the biggest launch of the year so far has been Snazaroo’s Face Paint Stencils and Temporary Tattoos.

With independent retailers in the party industry facing strong competition from larger grocers and mass-market providers, the landscape for Snazaroo is rapidly changing. However, Charlie thinks there will still be a place for smaller retailers in the future: “There is definitely a need for independents because the service they provide is far greater than mass-marketers. Their other advantage is in the range of product that they stock, which is wider and deeper than the larger chains.”

As Snazaroo increases its global presence, Charlie suggested to Party Party that a key test for the company will be in continuing to innovate in its approach to business, and ensuring that both consumer and customer expectations are exceeded.
