Latex balloons are available in hundreds of colours… Every one of them Green!

With more and more negative balloon campaigns appearing every year BAPIA has just launched a new initiative to promote a ‘positive’ image and understanding of balloons and the balloon industry.

The Green Balloon Campaign was created and inspired by Bob Armstrong CBA and Claire Cummings of Dr Bobs in Glamorgan and is initially aimed at educating youngsters so that they can understand where latex balloons come from and the part they play in the environment.

By giving a short, fun and interactive presentation to local schools the youngsters learn about the tapping of rubber trees to produce the latex, and by highlighting the countries on a Globe print balloon they learn where the plantations are around the world.

The presentation also shows how latex balloons are made from a 100% natural product and the plantations are a vital part of the global environment.

John Bowler, chief executive of BAPIA commented: “With councils and environmental organisations putting together their own campaigns to ban balloon releases it is essential that we present the facts about balloons and the environment, and that is what The Green Balloon Campaign is about!”

Having given the presentation at a number of schools in the Cardiff area, a Balloon festival is planned for the weekend of 27th – 29th August to coincide with the start of the IBA’s International Balloon Month in September.

The Balloon Festival will consist of a number of sculptures at 2 locations around the city where information leaflets will be distributed giving more information on balloons and what professionals can achieve with them.
