Clapham Junction Party Superstore goes from strength to strength

You would have thought that having 1,000 youths besiege your party store in Clapham Junction would put you off the location, however that is not the case for owner Duncan Mundell and his wife Alicia, who are re-opening their business in Clapham Junction.

Following the riots that took place on 8th August in Clapham Junction, Party Superstore, on the corner of Lavender Hill, was set alight by the rioters in a mindless act, which destroyed the whole store.

Despite this Duncan and Alicia will be re-opening in two new separate locations in Clapham Junction, one retailing balloons and decorations the other selling accessories, costumes and props. They hope to open both stores sometime in early October in the Junction where it wasn’t damaged, although the precise locations cannot be disclosed as of yet.

Alicia explained the company’s outlook and future plans despite the distress that they had been through: “It is very stressful and hard work, but all our staff are still with us, working from our Sutton store and offices. We are making sure our staff are well looked after. And all our customers from Clapham are coming over to our Sutton store, such as the restaurants and nightclubs.

“We have also launched our new online store, www.partysuperstores.com, which we have had a lot of support through and we are re-opening our store in Clapham as we want to support the area. Every cloud has a silver lining!”

Indeed Duncan and Alicia believe very strongly in supporting the area and are major supporters of the new Up the Junction project, which aims to restore the area.

The couple are also big charity supporters as Alicia explained: “What makes the incident so sad in Clapham Junction is that the main profits from that store go to the charity Duncan set up called Street Kids Rescue, which helps sick, abandoned and orphaned children in Burma and South East Asia.”

The charity is a very worthy cause and certainly does make the mindless act caused by not so under privileged youths a harder one to understand. Take a look at www.streetkidsrescue.org.

Party Party has been invited to the re-opening of the stores and looks forward to covering the event in our next issue. We wish Duncan and Alicia, and all their staff, the best for their future stores.
